The Bark Limiter G3 only weighs 4 oz. and can be worn by dogs from 10 lbs and up.

The New Tritronics Bark Limiter has “Sleep Mode”

I prefer a battery operated bark collar over a rechargeable bark collar because I want zero down time.My dogs do not wear bark collars all the time, but I don’t want to need a bark collar and not be able to use it because the battery needs charging.  I love the new battery function called “Sleep” mode. When the Tri Tronics Bark Limiter G3 is on your dog the collar will “shut down” when he is lying still after 30 seconds. This conserves the battery life since it is not draining power while your dog is asleep. The second he moves or barks it turns back on.

This morning, I changed out a battery for one of our local professional lab trainers. This battery had been running for over a year and his collar had never been turned off. When it was not on a dog he just let it drop into sleep mode.

The NEW Tritronics Bark Limiter has a new feature: The BARK ODOMETER

The only problem with leaving the collar “on” all the time is that you miss out on the “Bark Odometer.” When Tri-Tronics first told me about this new feature, I told them it was the worst idea I had ever heard. Then I got to use one and I got to eat my words. The “Bark Odometer” is perhaps the coolest idea I have ever seen for a no bark product.

The way it works, you can see how many times your dog was corrected since you last activated the Bark Limiter G3. If you have a dog that is barking while you are away at work during the day, you can turn the collar on in the morning and put it on your dog.

When you return in the evening, you take the collar off your dog and turn it off.  Before it shuts down, the red indicator light will blink the number of times that your dog was corrected since you put the collar on him. This way you know if your collar is working. Too many corrections and you need to increase the stimulation level. If there were no corrections, you can either leave the collar on the same level or lower it if you think it will keep your dog from barking. (I want one now)

The New Tri-Tronics Bark Limiter makes it easy to change levels so you can match the stimulation to your dog’s temperament.  The other nice improvement is the easy to change levels. With the Bark Limiter G3, you do not need any tools or magnets to change correction levels. You also do not have to open up the battery compartment to change levels.

The Tritronics Bark Limiter G3 gives you control over your dog barking problem. They keep ME out of the doghouse with my wife and the neighbors. I love my Tritronics bark collars. These no bark / bark control dog collars work great.

Making Your Dog Use A Doggy Door

Training your dog to use a doggy door – if you’ve just installed one – shouldn’t be too difficult; in fact, it may take only a few days or even a week. Of course, there may be some dogs that’ll sniff around the door to check it out or others that’ll just look and zip through it. Your dog might not be make the connection that this is a new way of leaving and entering the house and will require time to adapt, and you should be patient with your pet in this process.

A Few Training Tips

In reality, it is quite easy to train your dog to use the doggy door that has been newly installed, and if you’ve never got one installed, you can just follow the instructions given when you purchase your doggy door. Keep in mind that this door is new and will make some funny sounds.

The main process involves to place the dog in front of the doggy door and use your left hand to open the flap (or your right hand, if you’re left-handed) and then use your right hand to push the dog gently through the door. This is even more effective if a person that the dog is familiar with stands on the other side of the door with something that the dog likes.

Another way of going about it is training your dog through a game. Throw a toy through the doggy door and urge your dog to bring it back to you by making him go through the door. As your dog goes into the house, the other person should let go of the flap, which may make the dog hesitant to open it on its own. That’s expected, but eventually, he will go out after some time. If you find your dog still hesitating, assist him by lifting the door flap and gently stroking him to go through.

You can also take advantage when your dog needs to eat or rest to make it go inside the house through the door. Never scold or punish your dog because he hesitates to use the doggy door, all you’re going to do is make it think the door is wrong or bad. Try the reward system instead.

If you have a friend or relative that has a dog that uses doggy doors, then bring your dog over to watch. Often, when a dog sees another dog doing something, it will tend to imitate it and you’ll finally have a trained dog.

Canine Diabetes Leads To Blindness In Dogs — Can You Stop It?

It just doesn’t seem fair.  Your doggie companion has been diagnosed with canine diabetes, and now he seems to have problems seeing things.  Unfortunately, cataracts in dogs are extremely common in dogs with diabetes.  In fact, most canine diabetics will develop cataracts within a year of being diagnosed with this disease.

Basics Of Cataracts

A cataract forms when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy and opaque.Your dog can’t see through it once it becomes opaque and is no longer transparent.Blindess is the result.

Cataracts in dogs are common.Even though they can happen in just about any canine, they’re usually seen in elderly animals and dogs with diabetes.

Why Are Cataracts Common In Diabetic Dogs?

All cataracts develop in the same way, whether the pet has diabetes or not. It’s normal for the lens of your pet’s eye to be in a dehydrated state. As long as the delicate balance between protein and water remains the same, the lens remains clear.

If this balance is upset, more water is absorbed into the lens, which causes it to become cloudy and opaque.  When diabetes strikes, the blood sugar levels rise all over the body.Excess glucose in the eyball is absorbed by the lens.  In turn, this causes the lens to absorb more water, which causes the cloudiness and vision loss in cataracts.

This can be a fast process; it can occur in just a few weeks.  Sometimes this is the first symptom of canine diabetes that a pet owner will notice.

How Are Cataracts In Dogs Treated?

Cataracts are treated with surgery. If a canine has cataract surgery, he has a good chance of being able to see again.  If you decide not to have the surgery, your pet will become blind.

Believe it or not, blind dogs do very well. It’s often harder on the owner than it is on the pet.  Blind dogs adjust quickly, and can live long, happy lives.  You will need to have your vet monitor your pet’s eyes to prevent any other complications.

Can Natural Remedies For Dogs Protect Your Pet’s Eyes?

Bilberry has a long history in folk medicine an an herb that can stop, or even reverse, the formation of cataracts.Bilberries are filled to the brim with anthocyanins, which are powerful antioxidants.  These antioxidants neutralize free radicals, preventing them from damaging the eyes.

Would a remedy that contains bilberries help prevent blindness from cataracts in dogs?  It just might.  In any case, it wouldn’t hurt to try it, especially if bilberry is combined with goat’s rue, astragalus, fenugreek, and chromium, which have been proven to lower blood glucose levels in pets.

It’s essential to purchase a remedy made by a company that formulates only the safest and most effective natural pet remedies.  You’ll want to know your companion is receiving the right combination of herbs that will naturally regulate his blood glucose while protecting his eyes at the same time.
