In Vancouver, Chihuahuas are extremely popular.  The little dogs are everywhere.  Maybe you have one or are thinking about getting one.  What about training it?  Likelihood is that you live in a little loft in Kits or Yale town.  Regardless of how tiny it is; it still should be well behaved.  Well, are training Chihuahuas easy?  They are awfully unique dogs for sure!  But is training them any different than say a German shepherd?  Not especially.

Chihuahuas are still dogs and so they follow “dog” rules.  If you’ve got any experiences with dogs – and even if you don’t!  – You’ll do nicely.  You can correct their behavior very easily by just following a few straightforward tips.

All dogs instinctively feel that they are part of a pack of dogs, as in the wild before they were trained.  Chihuahuas aren’t different.  This is true whether they are the only dog for miles around.  It’s hardwired into their behavior.  And every pack has a top dog, the person who controls the remainder of the pack.  By outlining who the top dog is; the remainder of the dog’s falls into line.  Without an obviously outlined top dog, the other dogs will become worried.  By grasping this, then you may know who should be the top dog.  You!

Try it.  Next time you eat; don’t feed your Chihuahua if he wants something.  Eat your food first.  Then feed your Chihuahua.  Let him eat.  Then, take the food away after five mins.

This will let your Chihuahua know that you control the food and you are the top dog.  Another thing you can try is to not fuss over your dog when you return home.  Top dogs don’t do that.  Let your dog that you are home and let him welcome you.  But do not fuss.  This also will strengthen that you are the top dog.

With clearly outlined rules of who is top dog – you – your little Chihuahua will fall into line and behave.  So that you can take him or her for walks in Kerri dale in Vancouver or on the seawall and keep he in your residence and everything will be fine!  While there are dog training services in Vancouver, like convincing K9 or Bark busters, you can teach yourself – for quicker and less expensive results!

Your dog’s usual barks or “bow wows” may not always carry the same message. When your dog comes to you, be strong, do not get fooled.Your dog, maybe your best friend, might not be wanting the same dog treats. Perhaps your dog is having an intense feeling of seperation anxiety.

Seperation anxiety begins when your dog feels that you’re getting ready to leave. Opening the door, jingling the car keyys and other routines act like alarm bells that grab your dog’s attention.

This situation can be bad because dogs suffering seperation anxiety can start to destroy things. This destructive behavior can mean chewing up or scratching shoes, furniture or other things around the house.

Usually, similar to a puppy crying when it leaves its mother, dogs will howl because of seperation anxiety.Major tests have proven that your dog, just like you, also feels a lot of fear when they think they are being left out or alone. Thankfully, just as seperation anxiety in people can be cured, dog seperation anxiety can be fixed using therapy and medications.Remember that treating your dog for boredom is different than anxiety. Separation anxiety in dogs usually occurs due to the “super close” attachment between dog and master.Dogs that get really close to their owners usually start to need constant attention.

Even diehard dog lovers have to get that giving your dog attention is important, but you must also teach your dog to be independent and be ok with a bit of seperation. Dogs in particular, struggle with separation anxiety and will show anxiety-related behavior whenever they feel alone or understands that they will eventually be left alone.  Having a dog that behaves oddly because of separation anxiety is definitely a problem.  In mild cases, your animal may just show a bit of panting or less destructive behavior, give him some good dog food and everything will be fine.In extreme situations, dogs can destroy your and your neighbors property. I’m sure you would not like it if your neighbor was always nagging you about things your dog did?

At this juncture, it is important to have information on how to deal with your mutt menace. There are several practical solutions to effectively address separation anxiety in dogs.

Encourage Independence

Distance between you and your dog doesn’t necessarily mean neglect or meaness. Train your animals to be independent by not always giving in to all its whims. Let them also play with other people so whenever you are forced to get out of the house, your dog wouldn’t end up having shredded sofas and paw-markings on the front door.

Promote Independence

It is also important to make your dog’s house or spot clean, habitable and healthy for your pet.The less the place is conducive, the more your dog is going to want to get away and get back to you. This would further strengthen the animal’s attachment with the owner. However, if you let the animal feel comfortable where it is supposed to stay, eventually, your dog will learn to “stay”, and actually enjoy it.Curing your dog’s seperation anxiety will improve its health as well as protect the things in your house.

Jack Russel Terrier: An Overview

We mostly want to find companions who would give us most of the benefits we think we need. Well, if you are looking for a dog that is somewhat a one-in-package pal, you might find Jack Russell Terriers interesting enough.

This dog has a history that is somehow loomed to give rise to the species.

It was said that the breeder of this dog, a young Theologian student of Oxford University named John Russell once met a milkman with a white terrier that has spots on his eyes and ears. This dog became his interest which later proved to be his foundation for breeding a new dog breeds that many has learned to love as pets. The dog he first saw was named “Trump” from which another 60 types of terriers were later bred from.

With a terrier’s basic nature to go on and over the ground (terrier by the way came from the Latin term “terra” which means earth), Jack Russell terriers also have the disposition to hunt and scour for hunting. Thus, they should be given enough grooming so as to set off the dirt they gather from digging soil to either bury a treasure or to recover a hidden treasure kept long ago.

An excellent ratter, Jack Russell Terriers proves to be good “housekeepers” since they keep most rats away from home. Any unlucky rat that happens to be inside the quarters of this terrier is sure to meet its instant fate. Thus, owners find themselves with both a dog and cat in one pal.

One basic character of this dog is its tendency towards strangers. They can easily figure out who must be kept away from their homes and who can be accepted inside the house. This very attitude also makes them good watchdogs. They were designed specifically to be aggressive on preys. And while they can be very vocal, many of them only barks when they find good reason to.

They do not appear vicious though. But once they smell threat, they can show off aggressiveness that could serve as warning towards the strangers. However, once the stranger is let into the house by the owner, a Jack Russell can already tolerate their presence.

This terrier is also a family dog and desires for human companionship. And their love for children is significantly interesting. However, once they are abused or had been shown improper treatments, may it be intentional or accidental, they can react through aggressive behaviors. Their aggressiveness is further manifested with their lack of fear towards larger dogs which can unfortunately lead to injuries, some can even be fatal.

They are also marked for their intelligence and good spirit. These characteristics can be seen through their curiosity in things. Thus, they require supplementation on formal training unless you can tolerate unwanted behaviors. The good thing though with Jack Russell is that it can acknowledge training and do well in most of them. In fact, they are known to champion various ring shows and other similar competitions.

The Hollywood has recognized the disposition of these dogs too. Coupled with feisty and good physical characteristics, this pal has already made names in the screens. If Wishbone, Milo (from The Mask) and Eddie (from the Frasier) ring the bell on you then there is no doubt that you can recognize this dog.

Jack Russell fair well with grooming. A dog of relatively small size, this breed will not tax you with grooming needs.
